Art Show

The young artists of York Township are showcased every spring during the Art Show. Every student is represented and our school is transformed into an art gallery. Volunteers hang student art throughout the building the week preceding the Art Show.

Author Visit

Each/every other year the PTO hosts an author/illustrator of children’s books for a visit. The children spend about an hour learning about the guest and his/her work. Students have the opportunity to buy autographed books at a discounted price.

Book Fair

The Book Fairs coincide with the fall and spring parent/teacher conferences. They provide an opportunity for students, parents, and teachers to purchase new books. Volunteers assist students purchasing books and other items. Shifts are available before, during and after school. (Nov & May)

Box Tops

This program, sponsored by General Mills, allows YT families and friends to earn cash for the school by saving box tops from General Mills products. Volunteers trim, count and bundle Box Tops to prepare them for submission to General Mills. This can be done at home.

Caring and Sharing

A food drive is conducted in December to provide food and other necessities to YT families in need. Volunteers sort food and prepare individual gift boxes.

Directory

The PTO compiles and prints a directory for every York Township student and family.

Dollars for Scholars Book Sale

Dollars for Scholars raises money every year to benefit Dallastown graduates. The book sale takes place at the district-wide Fall Festival. Volunteers are needed to sort donated books into categories for the sale.

Dallastown Foundation Scholarship (DFS) Fall Festival Games

The district-wide Fall Festival, located at the high school campus, offers many games which are run by YT and the other individual schools from the district. Volunteers run games for one-hour shifts. (October) 

Fall Fundraiser

This is our annual fundraiser that supports all of the PTO activities, events and more for our children. Volunteers are neededto help distribute the fundraising materials and then on the day of pick-up, help sort and then assist with the distribution of the orders. Volunteers are asked to work 1-2 hour shifts.

Family Fun Night

This is a great time for all families of YT. This event usually takes place at the middle school where various activities such as basketball, volleyball, games, bingo and swimming are available. Snacks and more add to the fun. Volunteers staff games, prize & refreshment tables, and help with set up and clean up. (February)

Fun Day

A day filled with fun for the students. Activities typically include bounce houses, dancing, a DJ and much more!

Grade Specific Party or Fun Night

Each grade will have a night of fun.  Volunteers plan the event, setup & cleanup.

Homeroom Parents

The homeroom parent helps the classroom teacher as the teacher requests and serves as a liaison between parents and the PTO. This person also contacts other parents from the class to help w/ May Day. A sign-up sheet is sent home in the early weeks of the school year.

Hospitality

This committee is in charge of providing and serving food at special school functions. Volunteers prepare or serve  and help clean up for the Faculty Dinner (November) and Teacher Appreciation Luncheon (March). Volunteers also help with refreshments at various PTO functions.

May Day

May Day is a celebration of spring’s arrival and the nearing of the end of school. Games, rides, crafts, prizes, flower sales, dunk tank, food, baked goods, raffles and more are all at May Day! Over 100 volunteers help plan, set-up, run games, rides, and crafts, sell food and baked goods, and clean up. (1st Saturday in May)

 
Memory Book (Historian)

Volunteers document the school year in photographs and assist in assembling the school yearbook.

Pancake Breakfast

This is a time for families to get into the holiday spirit with a delicious pancake breakfast. The children can do their shopping at the Secret Shop, which is open in conjunction with the breakfast. Volunteers prepare and serve breakfast. (1st Saturday in December)

Penny Challenge (Dallastown Foundation Scholarship)

Another benefit to Dallastown graduates is from the class accounts. Contributions to these accounts come from the Penny Challenge every October. Volunteers are needed to help the children as they bring in all their pennies in the mornings.

Performing Arts

T
his committee coordinates with the other Dallastown School District elementary schools. Every year they choose a performer to provide one common assembly in each of the five buildings. (April) 

Scratching Post

This is a major source of information for YT families. It includes news about school and PTO activities. The newsletter is published each month of the school year. 

Spirit Wear

Select York Township Elementary Spirit Wear is available during special ordering times.  Volunteers are needed to help sort the items deliver them to classrooms. and sell spirit wear items at various PTO events.

Volunteer Coordinator

Volunteer information and sign up forms are sent out to each YT family at the beginning of the school year. All of this information is then collected and compiled. Volunteer lists are generated for each committee and sent to the committee chairpersons.

Website

In addition to The Scratching Post, our website is another source of information. The website chairperson maintains and updates the PTO website. Volunteer needs, announcements, and updates related to the PTO may be submitted for posting on the web.
