When the need for a new playground became apparent, the YT PTO was inspired to bring the project to fruition - no easy task since the estimated costs were slated to exceed $75,000.  Over the past two school years, the YT PTO raised funds for the new playground by hosting community fundraisers, seeking donations from local businesses, and applying for grants.  Fundraising only took six months - a testimony to the generous community support within the Dallastown Area School District.   Community fundraising consisted of school fundraisers such as Pennies for Playground, Fun Run, and book fair profits which raised over $16,400.  Collectively, the YT community raised over $30,000, which was a significant part of the cost and showed outstanding support and sacrifice for the project!  With the generous contributions of twenty-five local businesses and community leader, Bob Pullo, an additional $19,300 was donated towards the YT playground project.  The generosity and support for the children in the Dallastown community is astonishing - businesses gave bountifully during a time that they themselves were rebuilding after a challenging year.  The YT PTO also received grants from The Dallastown Area Educational Foundation and the J William Warehime Foundation.  Molly Loyer, YT PTO Secretary said, "I am overwhelmed at the tremendous community support given for the YT playground.  Our community gave generously and sacrificially and as a result, we had a playground installed in a mere nine months from the first penny given to the last playground post installed.”

The playground project was completed in February 2022 and as the Spring season approaches, students have already been able to enjoy the new equipment.  On Saturday, March 26, 2022, the York Township Elementary hosted a special dedication ceremony to honor all of the generous donors and YT community members who made the playground project possible.  The YT community also honored Jaycee Schwinn during the dedication - Jaycee was the daughter of a York Township family who passed away in 2018. York Township Elementary Principal, Marcus Bouchillon is, “honored and humbled by the incredibly generous outpouring of support from the York Township community.  The playground they have provided will benefit thousands of children for decades to come.  For local families, businesses, and organizations to give so sacrificially despite the challenging financial impacts of the pandemic is a testament to how much the community truly cares for our children. Words cannot fully express our gratitude and appreciation for the love shown to our students through this gift.”
